Colour
Golden honey-brown when freshly cut or recently oiled. Weathers to a silvery-grey if left untreated outdoors. Plantation teak is paler and more uniform.
Weight
Noticeably heavy — a solid teak chair feels substantially heavier than it looks. If a piece feels light, it is likely plantation teak or a blend.
Grain
Straight, close grain with occasional interlocking patterns. The grain is even and does not look like it was printed (as with veneer).
Touch
Natural oiliness you can feel with your fingertips. Run your hand along an unfinished edge — wild teak feels slightly waxy, not dry.

Nilambur Wild Teak grows in natural forests over 80–150 years, producing dense, oil-rich timber with a Janka hardness of 1,070 lbf. Plantation teak is fast-grown (15–25 years), lighter, less oily, and significantly less durable. Wild teak resists moisture, insects, and warping far better.
Genuine Nilambur Wild Teak has a golden-brown colour, prominent straight grain, and a natural oily feel. It is noticeably heavier than plantation teak. Ask for a government forest certificate or a Material Origin Certificate. Royal Nilambur provides a documented provenance certificate with every order.
Premium teak furniture is one of the few furniture categories that appreciates in value. A well-maintained Nilambur teak piece from the 1960s is often worth more today than when purchased. Unlike MDF or engineered wood, it can be sanded, re-oiled, and refinished indefinitely.
Very little. Teak's high natural oil content makes it self-protecting. For indoor furniture, dust regularly and apply teak oil once a year. For outdoor pieces, clean with mild soap and water; re-oil twice a year. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Yes. Royal Nilambur offers fully bespoke commissions — custom dimensions, joinery styles, and finishes. Custom orders typically take 8–16 weeks from confirmed specifications.
