Royal Nilambur

Edavanna, Malappuram · Kerala
Royal Nilambur is a furniture workshop in Edavanna, at the heart of Kerala's teak country. We make one thing: furniture from genuine Nilambur wild teak, sourced from government-licensed depots, built to your specification.
Who we are
Most furniture reaches you after passing through a manufacturer, a regional distributor, and a city showroom — each adding margin, each moving the product further from its origin. Royal Nilambur is the manufacturer. We are the workshop. When you order from us, you order directly from the people who build it.
Our workshop is in Edavanna, Malappuram — the same district as the Nilambur teak forests, a short drive from the KFDC (Kerala Forest Development Corporation) depots where we source our timber. This proximity is not incidental. It means we can hand-select logs, inspect grain direction and oil content before milling, and maintain direct control over the timber's journey from depot to finished piece.
We focus exclusively on Nilambur wild teak. We don't offer engineered wood alternatives, veneer options, or budget lines. Every piece in our collection is solid wild teak, built from timber that grew for 50–100+ years in the Nilambur valley, sourced under the Indian Forest Act from a KFDC licensed depot, and accompanied by a material origin certificate that traces back to its harvest block.
Why we exist
There is no legal requirement in India to specify wood variety on furniture labels. "Teak" can legally refer to any species of Tectona grandis, regardless of age, origin, or quality. "Teak finish" or "teak look" typically means engineered wood with a veneer or surface treatment.
The result: most furniture sold as "teak" in Indian cities is plantation teak harvested at 25–40 years — significantly softer, less oily, and far less durable than wild teak. Some is rubber wood or terminalia with a teak-colored stain. A buyer who pays ₹60,000 for what they believe is solid teak furniture may be getting plantation-grade wood worth a fraction of that in material quality.
Royal Nilambur exists to close that gap. Nilambur wild teak holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag — the same legal protection as Darjeeling tea and Kanjivaram silk. We source exclusively from KFDC licensed depots with government-traceable lot numbers, and we issue an origin certificate with every order. The furniture either comes with documentation of its origin, or it doesn't leave our workshop.
How it works
You confirm your order
Dimensions, finish, and any joinery preferences are agreed. Most customers order via WhatsApp call — we talk through the options and specifications together. No order is placed until both sides are aligned.
We select your timber at the KFDC depot
We photograph the specific logs selected for your piece — grain direction, colour tone, and cross-section — and share them with you. You can approve or request alternatives before we begin cutting. This is your material, and you should see it.
The piece is built to order in Edavanna
Every piece is made from scratch for the customer who ordered it. We don't maintain a stock of finished furniture. Build time is typically 4–6 weeks depending on quantity, though often sooner. Traditional joinery — mortise and tenon, pegged joints — no metal fasteners in the structural frame.
Delivery and assembly at your home
We deliver free across South India — Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Our team handles unpacking and assembly at your home. For buyers outside South India, we ship via trusted freight partners.
Origin certificate and 10-year warranty
Every order includes a material origin certificate traceable to its KFDC harvest block and a 10-year structural warranty. If a joint fails under normal use within that period, we repair or replace it.
What we stand for
One material, honestly sourced
We use only GI-certified Nilambur wild teak from KFDC licensed depots. No plantation teak, no mixed-grade timber, no exceptions. Every log has a government-issued number traceable to its harvest block.
Factory-direct pricing
No distributors, no city showrooms, no retail markup. What you pay goes toward the wood and the craft — not toward the cost of a glossy store in a mall. Our prices reflect the material, not the marketing.
Made to your specification
Every piece is built to order. Dimensions, finish tone, and joinery details are adjusted to your space at no extra cost. We don't sell stock furniture because stock furniture was built for no one in particular.
10-year structural warranty
We back every piece with a 10-year warranty on structural integrity. This is possible because the material is genuinely that good, and because we control every stage from timber selection to final finishing.
You can visit us
Our workshop in Edavanna is open to visitors. If you want to see the timber, see the joinery, and meet the people who will build your piece — you're welcome to come. Most customers outside Kerala order after a WhatsApp call, but the option to visit is always there.
Find us
We're open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm. If you're making a special visit to see specific pieces or select timber for a custom commission, let us know in advance via WhatsApp — we'll make sure the right pieces are set out and the right person is available to walk you through the workshop.
